The Italian band Figure Of Six is not easy to label with a genre. The album “Step One” was released in 2005 and it is certainly a remarkable development from a band that started as a hardcore band ten years earlier. The HC roots are still there, but now mixed with Noise and Metal influences in an unconventional way. Together with electronic elements this creates a very atmospheric sound. At some parts the electronic effects are used excessively, but most of the time I find this music very interesting, it is certainly not the typical metalcore that we’re used to hearing. Some of the tracks do not reach all the way, for example “Inside” that feels sleazy, and the flute is just too much. Other tracks are really good and as a whole Figure Of Six manages to make a very interesting album. It is impossible to compare this to other bands, the sound shifts too often. What sounds like one band can after 20 seconds remind you of something completely different and it is the diversity that’s Figure Of Six's greatest asset, it never gets boring.
