The word Finnugor means Finnish-Hungarian and that is what they are. Finnish-Hungarians plays black metal. Quite good ditto. But the vocals are... special. Partly hissing and partly just a deep, dark, shivering, talking tone. I must say that I’m not very fond of it though. Maybe it’s because I’ve never heard this sort of vocals before but I can’t help it (can I?). And that’s a real pity, because I like the rest very much. There are a lot of great harmonies in the Finnish-Hungarians' music and all the instruments are played by talented musicians. Finnish-Hungarian is a two-man band that has good routine in the music-business and I’m sure that there is an audience there for them. Mr. Stålhammar and Mr. Wolf have lain much time on this record and their effort turned out to make a nice result. The parts where the vocals sound more like a regular tongue does are great. And one thing I like is much sound. Many dubs and double harmonies increase the level of amusement. Track number 8, "Behind The Mirror", is a great example on how good music should sound; it is 10 minutes long and starts of directly with grinding drums and bombastic keyboards. It is sung in Hungarian (the Hungarian title for the track is "A Tükör Mögött") but it doesn’t really matter because it delivers so much feeling that I can’t care about what the lyrics are about. It grabs me so hard that I even succeed to listen beyond the, on other tracks, so annoying vocals. It has slower parts and blast and everything is good. Hopefully you will hear Finnish-Hungarian and if so, I hope you like the vocals more than me. Then you have a really nice piece of plastic for your CD player to whirl. "I AM ONE WITH THE NIGHT, JUST AS BLACK".
