REVIEW: Fireball Ministry - The Second Great Awakening Nuclear Blast, 2003
7.5/10
Fireball Ministry - The Second Great Awakening - cover art After two minor label releases the American band Fireball Ministry have now ended up signing a deal with the German metal giant Nuclear Blast which is definitely a big step in the band's career. Produced by Grammy Award winning Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters' One By One) the sound quality of this album will not disappoint anyone but that is rarely the case with Nuclear Blast releases anyway. The band has already done extensive live duty performing with bands like The Datsuns, Fu Manchi, Motörhead, Danzig and High on Fire and it doesn't take long to realize that this is a quality rock band to say the least. All songs are written with care, every member seems to be a skilled musician and they have a good vocalist who varies between a clean rock 'n roll voice with a light Lemmy rasp and Ozzy Osbourne wailing. Many will probably complain about him trying too much to be Ozzy and he is walking a thin line I must say. Fireball Ministry hasn't really come up with anything new that we haven't heard before but their intense mixture of energetic hard rock and doomy older Black Sabbath metal is very well done and they are definitely a band worth looking into if you're into heavy stoner rock / metal. A very even album with no real highs or lows.
