REVIEW: Fleshcrawl - Soulskinner Metal Blade Records, 2001
8/10
Fleshcrawl - Soulskinner - cover art Fleshcrawl is one of the most experienced death metal bands in Europe and they are still capable of showing the world why Germany is such a strong metal nation. "Soulskinner" is the band's sixth full-length album but only their second on their new label Metal Blade and some of you might suspect that Fleshcrawl is getting old and soft but don't worry about that. This album contains some of the most well-executed, energetic, intense and devestating brutal death metal I've heard so far this year which is now soon coming to an end. Even though I am not very fond of the endless play with words in the black/death metal genres (this time it's "Deathvastation", can it possibly get any worse?) I have to give these guys credit for being some very creative and skilled musicians. Sharp crushing riffs, nice growling vocals and a killer production makes this a memorable death metal release that will leave blood-drenched traces all over the world. If you like Bolt Thrower you would not want to miss out on this album. The final track is strange enough a cover of the Judas Priest song "Metal Gods" which sounds ok but nothing more. These Germans do however kow how to make brutal death metal sound beautiful. Are you ready to have your soul skinned?
