REVIEW: Flotsam And Jetsam - My God Metal Blade Records, 2001
7.5/10
Flotsam And Jetsam - My God - cover art The legendary thrash metal band Floatsam And Jetsam has been around a long time by now and most people probably already know that this was the former band of Jason Newsted (ex-Metallica). While Metallica and Megadeth have strayed far from their original sound, Floatsam And Jetsam has always been faithful to the thrash metal scene and their eighth album "My God" is no exception. Even though this is not the fastest thrash metal album ever it has more than enough of nice melodies and heavy guitar riffs to make for a good hour of listening. Perhaps some songs have a more experimental touch than necessary but there are some great classic thrash metal tracks to be found here like "Dig Me Up To Bury Me", "Camera Eye" and "Learn To Dance". The vocals from Eric A.K. are an important asset to the band as well and without them they would sound very different I think. This is a nice thrash metal release but it doesn´t have that little extra you would expect from a band that has been around since 1986. They have to look harder to find their god for the next album. "My God" was recorded and mixed between October 2000 and January 2001 at Vintage Recorders in Phoenix, AZ, by Bill Metoyer.
