REVIEW: Fraise - Hellicornia Self-financed, 2004
7.5/10
Fraise - Hellicornia - cover art By listening the first notes of the debut album of Fraise “Hellicornia ” one could realize that it is an interesting mixture of Power - Heavy Metal. The first track is an Intro. The second song “Set Us Free” is quick and rapid. “Fight With Fire” is slower but heavier. “Ice Cold” is distinguished by the power vocals. “July” is an Epic Ballad. The other songs are typically nice and likeable Power Metal tracks. Finally the release ends with the Outro “X9”. Hellicornia in general sounds enjoyable and energetic. They are influenced by the 80s H.M legends like Helloween, and Accept, but also by the 90s Power Metallers: Nocturnal Rites and Hammerfall. At some parts they have quick and cut riffs, at some others heavier. The compositions are hard “bound” (“tight beat” as they describe themselves), and all the musicians sound well trained. They are based on melodies and patterns that we already have heard a great deal before. And usually there is the danger of repeating themselves. Although they have good prospects, in order not to be “another good power metal band” they should surpass themselves by adding more originality. We are eager to listen to their second release.
