Here we have five very young musicians coming from Finland. The average age is just 17! Frostburn really impressed me more than any other newcomer band lately. You simply cannot imagine that you are listening to a Demo-band! Founded in 2000, the band now released their third demo "My Scars" in 2003. Their style is very similar to Charon's, no wonder - both bands have their origins in the same city. Other comparable bands/projects would be Sentenced, Poisonblack or For My Pain. Very melodic, dark gothic metal. This atmosphere is created mainly by two guitars (played by Juho Törmälä and Tuomas Valtanen) - which are the main element here - and by Jarno Markus' strong, deep voice which fits perfectly into this genre. The first track "Crucify My Heart" starts right away with amazingly precise played guitar melodies and leads into a catchy chorus followed again by guitar solos. It continues with "Ode For My Pain" which connects some calmer parts, in this case more concentrated on the vocals, with faster and harder guitar parts, still full of melodies. Even more melodies and fantastic vocal arrangements come up with the next one called "Cruelty Of Love". Here the powerful guitar riffs are rather put into the background to create a calmer atmosphere. However this song offers some nice guitar solos again. Fourth and last song on this demo is called "Embrace Me (Die For Me)" which is my favorite song due to a great melancholic atmosphere created again through a mix of this great guitar/vocal work. The demo was recorded and mixed by Pasi Sipilä and mastered by Juha Matinheikki at BRR-Studios. Very good production. As you may probably realize from this review I'm really amazed by what Frostburn showed here. I'm sure we will hear of this band again and it won't take too long till some record companies realize how talented they are. The only negative aspect is that they still sound too similar to these bands mentioned above.
