REVIEW: Full Blown Chaos - Within The Grasp Of Titans Stillborn Records, 2006
7.5/10
Full Blown Chaos - Within The Grasp Of Titans - cover art Full Blown Chaos is back with a massively ugly but no less powerful release in Within the Grasp of Titans. While some may argue whether their first full length album, Wake the Demons, was more Metal than this one, the answer remains that their blend of Hardcore -- of the harsh, brutal NYHC variety -- and Metal -- of the mostly Thrash and at times Death varieties -- is a crowd pleaser. FBC may not present the most original brand of sonic abuse to come down the pike in ages, but they are quite competent at what they do and punish with pleasure, that pleasure residing on both sides of the stage/speakers/earphones (i.e., theirs and yours alike). Vocals are perhaps less brutal this time around but otherwise are the essentially familiar Hardcore style. Production is clear with everything presented appropriately and ably by Eric Rachel (God Forbid, among others).

"Burning Age" invokes Six Feet Under's "Shadow of the Reaper" with its repetitive, syncopated riffing. "Vendetta" may be the strongest song offered here and a very Kerry (King!) solo seals the deal. Penultimate track, "Kingdom Undone," is another strong candidate for best song while "The Voorhees Complex" is a mostly Death Metal sounding affair written in tribute to one Jason Voorhees of Friday the 13th movie infamy. Also worth noting is the 'hidden' rerecording of “Bloodflow” from the band’s debut EP, Prophet of Hostility, this time around benefitting from better production and overall sound. Fans of Hardcore bands with a distinct Metal bent will find plenty to enjoy among the buzzing riffs, bludgeoning breakdowns, and piercing leads. Jamey Jasta (Hatebreed, as if you didn't know) helped the band by signing them to his label, Stillborn Records, as well as getting them on last year's Ozzfest, so the future must be bright for Major Chaos and crew. Only time will tell.
