"Un Lac De Larmes Et De Sang" ("A Lake Of Tears And
Blood") is the second album from the French band Furia, a band from the city
of Macon that has been active since the summer of 1997. Since I think the
French language sounds very good when sung I was happy to see that Furia
decided to stick with their native tongue for this album as well even though
most vocals are death growls where the language doesn't really matter that
much. Adipocere Records is a very important label who unveils a very vivid
metal scene that exists in France and Furia is also an interesting band. The
album starts off with a very nice symphonic intro that reminds me a little of
Ancient Rites. Other than this there is not that much these two bands have in
common. When the intro has faded away we get to hear the real Furia which is a
peculiar mix of atmospheric music, melodic death metal and bombastic heavy
metal. The production is pretty well done, the riffing is sharp and there are
quite a lot of symphonic keyboards and also some female vocals done by Adeline
of the band Akin. While the music is quite exciting and even beautiful at
times the band suffers from the vocals which unfortunately lack in quality.
Furia is nevertheless a band that deserves to be noticed, they take their
music seriously and they are successful when it comes to the more atmospheric
passages and their slightly melancholic At The Gates sounding melodies. I also
like the use of acoustic guitars in the midst of black metal screams and heavy
riffing. A decent second album from the band but they still need to polish
their sound a little before reaching further in their musical evolution.
