Gato Aplastado features lead throat Sergio from the great Spanish grind band “Unsane Crisis”, but the music here isn’t straight out grind. Rather its punk inspired hardcore crust with grind tempos thrown into the mix. Since the early to mid nineties punk rock has lost its creativity and edge. Not here. “Engendro Enfermo” is anything but stale. With the addition of a keyboard, which is used on occasion but adds needed depth to the music. These Spanish musicians storm through 14 unique tracks, with the last two being cover songs. Both “Earth A.D.” and “London Dungeon” from the early days of the American punk legends “The Misfits”. Gato Aplastado does both covers justice, while London Dungeon is a perfect rendition. “Fucking Gorilla” is brought in for vocal duties on London Dungeon. I don’t know who Fucking Gorilla is, but he adds a new dimension to the classic. They also cover a Spazz song with “Swamp Food”. There are many influences within their (at times) weird sound and because of this, Gato Aplastado stands out. This is definitely something to check out if you are into the hardcore crust/punk/grind scene. It’s always refreshing to hear a release this well performed. Staying true to the old school sound, but injecting different ideas and sounds into the mix. Wicked release.
