REVIEW: Gezeiten - Demo CD 2003 Self-financed, 2004
6/10
Gezeiten - Demo CD 2003 - cover art Does any of you remember the old Swiss thrash metal band Messiah who released several albums in the late 80s and early 90s? If so, then this sounds nothing like it. The reason why I mention Messiah is just because the drummer of Gezeiten, Pete Schuler, was a member of that band for a short while back in 1990. Now he has moved into much more experimental ground by joining his countrymen in Gezeiten. This demo cd consists of a very weird mix of gothic metal, early doom / death metal, classical music, pop and even some ethno and techno. In other words this is only for those of you who are really open-minded when it comes to music. They often stray too far from the path in my opinion though but when everything falls into place the way it does on "Halle Der Könige" it sounds just wonderful. The element that stands out the most in the mix is actually the dark gothic vocals which are very well done. That is what separates them from all other so called gothic metal bands today. Unlike them the vocals here are really gothic. If you like bands as diverse as Paradise Lost, Samael, Amorphis and Lacrimosa then this could very well be your cup of tea.
