REVIEW: Ghoul - Maniaxe Razorback Records, 2003
7.5/10
Ghoul - Maniaxe - cover art Second album from Ghoul. Another attack of twisted, bizarre musical lunacy. A weird combination of various metal styles, ranging from thrash to death metal and some gore here and there. The music incorporates things characteristic to Carcass (the voice is identical), Macabre (the feeling throughout album), even Metallica (some riffs are ‘borrowed’ hehe, look for a lawyer). It is all put in a melting pot called "Maniaxe" and can provide a lot of fun for people who like zombie tales with a touch of sick humor. The music is intense, but I just don’t take it seriously, that’s why I compare it to Macabre. In one song the vocals are spoken, not sung, and it’s hilarious, and one song is pure r’n’r, like taken from the ‘Pulp Fiction’ movie. The production is very good, no messing with it, and the booklet contains all lyrics, but not much band info.
