Glass Casket, with their roots in North Carolina, have released their debut album ‘We Are Gathered Here Today’. These five men, formerly known as Gadrel, are delivering metalcore with roots deep in melodic death metal, not surprisingly since Adam Cody, when he is not singing with Glass Casket, is doing the vocals in Vehemence. Glass Casket also share members with the metalcore band Between the Buried and Me. ‘We are gathered here today’ probably falls under the subgenre “deathcore” although it has some moments of grind. They are all good musicians in the band and they leap between heavy melodic passages and schizophrenic grindcore without hesitation. This record has moments that are really good and ‘In Between the Sheets’ and ‘A Gray A.M. You Will Never Get To See’ are by far the strongest tracks on the record. The ‘death’- part is however dominating and since I am more of a hardcore head it is not my favourite genre. Still I must admit that it is a good debut from a band that probably will record even better records in the future.
