NOLA's favorite bastard sons are back and their mission is sicker than ever. Louis Benjamin Falgoust II, Sammy Pierre Duet, and the boys have unfurled a masterful release with the unleashing of A Haunting Curse. Metal Blade has backed the band and should bring them more attention than previously garnered, never mind Hank III doing what he can by consistently, conspicuously, and constantly wearing one of those Jägermeister-inspired shirts.... Having survived hurricane Katrina and any number of other setbacks (seemingly repeated car crashes, anyone?), Goatwhore are at the ready to attack both the unsupecting and the initiated alike. Their brand of Blackened Sludge oozes and grinds along, alternating between the pace of a slug dying from salt exposure to a rabid cat on fire. Their sound has been slightly refined by Erik Rutan's crystal clear and punishing production value, with those signature dissonant riffs, blasting drums, boiling bass, and dueling vocals that destroy -- everything you love about the band -- still present in massive portions, just with more clarity. Lyrical content is still as extreme as ever, no surprise there, so don't expect kumbaya, kiddies. Let's face it, by this time in the year 2006 Metalheads have had several rather notable releases up for selection. Do yourself a favor and do not neglect the mighty Goatwhore. You will be rewarded with killer Pagan dissonance. In a word: abusive.
