Extreme metal is played either really well, or is a complete waste of time. With this release by Godüs, I find myself wasting my time. When I listen to music that is recorded and released professionally, I expect the band to have their shit together. With Godüs, each musician seems to be playing a different song than the other. Or they're off in their own little world, it's like they push themselves so they can be heard over everyone else. For most of this album, the songs are a mess. The composition of every song plainly sucks. Now don't get me wrong, the drummer can blast out the blackened thrashy grind, but that means nothing when he's trying to steal the show, by playing harder and faster than the guitarists. I'm a huge fan of speed metal and grind, but the music doesn't always have to be full speed. There is nothing on this disc that stands out. The guitars fly off, and sound almost pathetic. The singer's moans, groans, and screams are probably the most annoying I've ever heard in black metal. He's trying way too hard to sound like he's in agony and torment. Only once "Triumphant Gleam" starts is there any sign of actual rhythm. It's the only cool song on here, and it's not even their own song. It's a Darkthrone cover!! I'm lost with this release. Maybe in a few years I'll play it again, and it will make sense to me. For now, I don't understand this mess. The cd is now a coaster.
