The cover art of the debut album from God Among Insects has already been deemed too undescent by German authorities to be displayed in the record stores. Censorship has been taken to the absurd in some countries now but that kind of behaviour will only make the kids want to see the original cover art even more than before. It will therefore give the bands some undeserved extra publicity. I prefer to let the music speak for itself and this time it is definitely good enough. God Among Insects was already well known before they even had completed their debut album. The editor of the Swedish Close-Up Magazine even listed the band as one of the 5 most interesting bands at the moment without having heard a single note. Wow..., says it all, doesn't it? Anyway, God Among Insects lived well off the reputation of its band members until now. Here we find Emperor Magus Caligula (Dark Funeral) on vocals, Lord K Philipson (The Project Hate) on guitars, Tomas Elofsson (Sanctification) on bass and Tobias Gustafsson (Vomitory) on drums, a very impressive line-up indeed. While being drenched in brutality this debut album also shows a groovy side, mixing influences from old-school Swedish death metal and early American death metal á la Obituary. Although recorded in the Abyss Studios with Tommy Tägtgren these nine tracks bear a less Abyss-like soundmark than most other albums leaving the studio. The powerful guitar sound definitely suits God Among Insects and "World Wide Death" is a blasphemous attack of intense and promising death metal. Almost all music has been written by Lord K and he definitely knows his way around this genre.
