REVIEW: God Dethroned - Ravenous Metal Blade Records, 2001
8/10
God Dethroned - Ravenous - cover art This is the third God Dethroned album so far and also the fastest one with drumming from Tony Laureano (Angel Corpse, Nile). Perhaps they are not the top death metal band in the US but they are not far behind the giants like Cannibal Corpse and Morbid Angel. I have never been a huge fan of the more brutal bands from the land of the fifty stars but I really enjoy these melodic ones. "Ravenous" starts out with three great songs that are big enough reason themselves to buy this album. Then the music fades out a little although it is always lightyears away from being bad. Powerful but still melodic death metal is a genre that really flourishes in the US but it still has some ground to break in Europe to beat the Swedish scene and the Gothenburg sound I think. Since I´m from Sweden I can not help favoring these bands a little although I also like God Dethroned and the whole American scene as well. Except for the band´s own songs we will also find the Death cover "Evil Dead" on this album. One of the best death metal albums so far this year but I still hope for more from this very talented band.

Comment: Excuse me for the mistake of making God Dethroned an American band. They are from the Netherlands and no place else. They are however playing American inspired death metal.
