Goddess Of Desire is the Dutch modern equivalent to Manowar - theatrical and epic heavy metal with a prominent 80s vibe and where as much attention has been focused on visual aspects as the music itself. When performing live the audience will witness the band members dressed in spikes, leather and bullet belts with two female sword bearing and fire breathing dancers accompanying them. Goddess Of Desire has no wish to renew the concept of metal but relies on what has been tried with success in the past - simple, basic and catchy metal riffs are adorned with vocals ranging from a raucous clean voice to more of a thrash metal use of the throat and once in a while death metal growling. In my opinion there is no longer a shock value for anyone whatsoever and to refer to Goddess Of Desire as a controversial band, which has been done on more than one occasion in the past, seems nothing but the point of view of the ignorant. Speaking about their music is considerably more interesting and there are in fact some memorable and entertaining material to enjoy on this disc, above all the heavy metal anthem "March To Meet". Their brand of galloping heavy metal diluted with a healthy dose of thrash riffs is headbanger friendly and will certainly be a delight to many old-school purists who shun progression more than life-long pain and torment. The previously mentioned "March To Meet" set aside the most impressive songs has to be "Scream For Metal True" (yes, it IS cheesy) and "Nothing's Free" (this is more or less a pure tribute to Lemmy & Co). If not pioneering and extraordinary so at least entertaining and sentimentally charming.
