Gorgoroth is one of the few Norwegian black metal bands from the early days who are still around and remain true to their roots. Highly influential in the metal underground since the early 90s they have reached new, albeit less fluttering, heights with the attention received from certain criminal charges during the past couple of years. Nonetheless, their musical ambitions have apparently not suffered from these outside affairs, aside from the fact that it has passed no less than three years since their last album "Twilight Of The Idols" and short of 40 minutes of music is presented on the new effort "Ad Majorem Sathanas Gloriam". Continuing to promote their satanic convictions as strong as ever before they have written another landmark album in the history of black metal. While I "only" found "Twilight..." to be a good and solid release, their latest offering is simply amazing. Opening up with the majestic and incredibly intense "Wound Upon Wound" they line up one true gem after another until the bitter end. When "Prosperity And Beauty" is followed by silence you will continue to long for more. This is easily one of the most impressive albums to be released thus far in 2006. Black, eerie and beautifully grandiose. Perhaps they could have benefited from a somewhat dirtier production but the balance is close to perfect.
