REVIEW: Gotha - Take Your Soul (demo) Self-financed, 2002
5.5/10
Gotha - Take Your Soul (demo) - cover art Don't judge a book by its cover is in my opinion a golden rule that you should try to obey. You should always keep your mind open and this is not only of relevance when it comes to music but everything in your life. When I put a cd in the cd player I do not expect anything from it, except that it should work of course. Gotha does not play gothic metal despite the band's name. They do not play power metal either like so many other Italian bands. Instead they have decided that thrash is what makes this planet go round and makes people stay happy. Having formed in the end of 1998 they have been around for a few years now and grown together as a band. "Take Your Soul" is a three-track promo cd, or demo if you will, lasting for less than ten minutes. Still, these three tracks are enough to make a good impression of what the band is about. Gotha have been influenced by the early wave of thrash metal bands - Exodus, Dark Angel, Slayer etc. and they are quite nice to listen to. It isn't really something special though - the riffs are basic thrash riffs and I am not too fond of the vocals. If you want to listen to Italian thrash metal I would recommend Necrodeath instead of this. Then again, there are people who prefer to listen to the same simple old riffs over and over again. If you are one of them then this is for you.
