REVIEW: Grabnebelfürsten - Von Schemen Und Trugbildern Ketzer Productions, 2001
7.5/10
Grabnebelfürsten - Von Schemen Und Trugbildern - cover art Grabnebelfürsten is a German band that seems to have lived a rather obscure life so far and I do not have any information whatsoever on the band. What little I do know is that they have recorded at least one demo and apparently a mini-CD called "Sakralästhetik" on the German label Last Episode. Writing song titles in German and being a black metal band will automatically make them a nazi band in the eyes of some people but to the best of my knowledge that is not the case. Anyway, this is a band that clearly deserves more attention then they have been given. Beyond the very good production this is a band that plays extremely melodic and atmospheric black metal. They use the guitars combined with keyboards to make powerful symphonic arrangements like Cradle Of Filth used to do and they also mix clean and extreme vocals with a more than satisfying result in a similar way to Ancient Rites. If you enjoyed the last album from Ancient Rites there is a big chance you will like this release as well although Grabnebelfürsten are slightly more raw and unpolished. This may not be the album of the year but Grabnebelfürsten have still conceived an hour of high quality music, very powerful and enough varied to be interesting all the way through which is not very easy to do when playing black metal. Recommended for fans of atmospheric black metal.
