Grotesque was pure evil. Satan made his voice be heard through Goatspell (Tomas Lindberg), who eventually fronted “At the Gates”. Today he is the voice of many different projects including: Lock up, The Great Deceiver, Disfear, etc. . . . Grotesque spawned themselves late in 1988. Constructing one hell of a sound, which places the band early in the Death / Black Metal scene, and one of the originators of the Gothenburg sound. They set a mood of darkness, along with chilling melody, then within a split second would unleash the beast with crushing drumming and screaming guitar rhythms. Goatspell vomits out his sickness in a ravaging way like only he can. Every member shines on “In the Embrace of Evil”. This is aggressive death metal that still stands and sounds fresh today. The drums kick your skull in blasting out thrashy death metal with flurries of blackened grindcore. Tracks 1, 4, 5, and 6 are remastered songs from the "In the Embrace of Evil"
demo that was never released. This is when the band first burst onto the scene. Then songs 2, 3, 7, 8, and 9 are taken from the “Incantation” EP. The final two songs were recorded in 1996 which saw the Necrolord, Goatspell, and the Offensor get back together one last time for the special release of “In the Embrace of Evil”. Each song offered here is raw, intense, and brutal. It might take a few listens before your mind acknowledges how great this material is. Give it the respect it diserves. In my opinion it’s one of the best Death Metal releases ever!! Recommendations: "Incantation", "Blood Runs From the Altar", "Angels Blood". . . Bands of today have nothing on Grotesque.
