REVIEW: Grotesqueuphoria - Euphoric Discordance Self-financed, 2002
6.5/10
Grotesqueuphoria - Euphoric Discordance - cover art Oozing out of New York's Long Island is Grotesqueuphoria with 12 songs in the old NYDM style. What I mean by that is that this album has the style and production of a "Human Waste" rather than a "Despise The Sun". Despite their being from New York, the band manages to stay away from too much of that slow muted chugging which often makes a band sound lethargic if not used properly. "Cursed To Live" has some odd riffing which Autopsy might have used in their early work, and "Torch Of Revenge" has a killer gallop breakdown. There are a couple of mellow instrumental guitar tracks, which are fine, but seem rather desultory on an album such as this. Many hails for the sample from "Event Horizon", but for a band who's bio claims that they surpass Pyrexia and Suffocation, Grotesqueuphoria have some work to do in my books. Favorite tracks: "Pavement Of The Concentration Camp".
