REVIEW: Guano Apes - Proud Like A God Supersonic Records, 1997
9.5/10
Guano Apes - Proud Like A God - cover art This German band has made one of the best debut albums I've ever heard. Guano Apes play a unique style of melodic and technical metal with the real strength being the powerful female vocals by Sandra Nasic - the vocals on this album are among the best I've ever heard as well - switching from aggressive and deep to soft and emotional - she does it all in a great way. Most of the songs on the album are rather fast and aggressive but there are also some slower and softer ones which are fairly good as well. Proud Like A God was produced and engineered by Wolfgang Stach at Horus Studio, Hannover, Germany and mixed by Ronald Prent at Wisseloord Studios, Hilversum, Netherland. This is a very good album although all metal fans might not like it. Unfortunately the band's second album was a real disappointment if you compare it to this one - it consists of plain pop music all the way through with nothing sticking out.
