The Norwegian power metal act Guardians Of Time was formed in 1997 and released their debut album "Edge Of Tomorrow" in 2001, an album which I have not heard. The band features former Scariot vocalist Bernt Fjellstad and original Trail Of Tears drummer Vidar Uleberg among others. This is musically remote from their former bands though as you probably realize by now. The first words that came to mind when I began listening to the band's second album were Gamma Ray. Other valid reference points that became apparent as I walked from one track to another are Hammerfall and Stratovarius. Without copying any of these in every aspect it is definitely this school of power metal that Guardians Of Time belongs to, including a little bit of everything to create their own personal sound. The lyrical concept is a futuristic one as you will understand by just taking a look at the album cover, behind which lies the Russian artist Leo Hao who has worked with famous bands like Blind Guardian and Iced Earth. Massacre Records always make sure that their products reach a certain quality and Guardians Of Time is no exception. Everything breathes of professionalism - from the music itself to the production and the artwork. Fjellstad has a very nice and melodic singing style but unfortunately he doesn't have a world class voice which is close to necessary in order to succeed in this genre today. Musianship on a high level makes this album an enjoyable power metal release.
