The cover art of this album from the Italian band Gulu Locus will certainly scare off a few potential buyers. Come on, what were they thinking? But perhaps they were not very serious about the release at all, considering a title such as "Chocol-Hate". Musically these Italians mix death metal growling with suggestive and repetitive metalcore riffs and a steady stoner / doom groove which makes their songs rather catchy. Slow to midpaced most of the time this album will appeal to fans of both doom metal and aggressive metalcore. Gulu Locus have read their metalcore manual well but they have not added any influences of their own which will easily make "Chocol-Hate" drift away on the ocean of lost memories. If they want the wind to change direction and bring them back to the shore once again they need to improve their song writing and break standard patterns at least once or twice. Not entirely bad but far from impressive.
