REVIEW: Gutworm - Ruin The Memory Anticulture Records, 2004
6.5/10
Gutworm - Ruin The Memory - cover art British quintet Gutworm released their debut album on Anticulture Records in 2004. Not really death metal, not thrash and not hardcore, Gutworm are instead a harsh mix of all three. From the first track to the last, this brutal band is pure energy and aggression. The opening track ‘What You Are’ immediately sets the standard with full-scale war on your ear drums and Gutworm keep it coming throughout the whole album. Vocalist Neil Hudson has a painful scream, a deep roar and the record has two short, but great, parts of clean singing in ‘Obscure Devotion’ and ‘Twisted’. Ruin The Memory has a tendency to lack diversity, but that is the only complaint I have. Gutworm are a young band and this is a great debut album. I hope that we will hear a lot more from them in the future.
