This is my first Hammerfall album,
hey cut me some slack, this stuff is
hard
to find in the states!
First
thing I did after listening was to look up the word 'templar' in
the
dictionary. It means some kind of crusader or something not so common
to
the
american vernacular. This band is everything I love about power metal,
swords, motorcycles, pounding rhythms, squealing leads
and anthem
choruses.
I was immediately drawn in by the smooth guitar tones. Excellent
production
is evident throughout the album. I could not find single flaw
or raw
spot.
The prog metal fan in me left me wanting a little more
virtuosity from
this
band and I'm sure they are more than capable of
providing it but then
it
wouldn't’t be
Power metal would it?
There is a
hand in glove, team playing aspect evident in the
songwriting and
musicianship. They sound comfortable with one another without relying
on
formulas and predictable elements. Cain's vocals are powerful yet
smooth
and
unstrained. He has a good range and is able to go from one end of it to
the
other with no apparent effort. My favorite track is "The way of the
warrior". You got to love that catchy chorus!
I cant distinguish who
play what lead but if it is a 50/50 split
Dronjak and
Elmgren are a real
match for each other. Much like the combination of
Roy Z.
and Adrian
Smith. Bassist Rosen and drummer Johannsen are solid and in
the
pocket
throughout the album, textbook examples of how a bassist and
drummer
should work together.
I wish I had been to the BYH 01 to see them live, I
think I might order
the
video.
Unless your one of those guys that's
jaded to anything traditional
sounding, I think you'll really enjoy this
cd.
Stay True!
