REVIEW: Haste - When Reason Sleeps Century Media, 2001
8/10
Haste - When Reason Sleeps - cover art Those of you who wondered if Haste could maintain the relentless energy and power displayed on their debut album from 1999 can be calm because they sure has managed to do so. The double vocals reminds me of Deftones but the music of Haste is more complex and emotional than their American colleagues in crime. Haste is one of many new American bands who could be included under the nu-metal genre but in that case in the outskirts of it. Their vocals are mostly screaming and shouting but there are also some sufficiently nice clean ones as well as some on the verge of black metal screeches. Although their vocals can become rather tiresome after a while I still like the enormous energy and the power drive in their sound which is the main attraction of this band. If you like Pantera better than Metallica, hmm..., well, you get the point I hope, then this will perhaps be something for you to enjoy. The album was recorded at Synchromesh Studio (Creed, Collective Soul) in Alabama.
