REVIEW: HatePlow - The Only Law Is Survival Pavement Music, 2000
7.5/10
HatePlow - The Only Law Is Survival - cover art If the cover art shows a picture of a man blowing his head off with a shotgun it is not extremely difficult to guess what the musical content inside sounds like. As far as brutal death metal goes the guys who make up HatePlow are doing a good job although I would prefer a little bit more variety in the music. The vocals are good with one dark growler and one sounding more like a soft black metal vocalist. This duality creates some nice effects which enhance the audial pleasure. HatePlow put down a lot of energy being as brutal as possible but unfortunately this spoils the listener's experience somewhat. Sometimes there is scarcely anything but speed and brutality pouring out of the speakers and that easily gets boring. This is only part of the truth though. There are still plenty of nice aggressive riffs on the album which make HatePlow a more than decent band in the field of death metal. If you enjoy skilfully performed death metal in the more brutal vein HatePlow is a good band to start out with, especially if you are into the American scene.
