REVIEW: Hatesphere - Serpent Smiles And Killer Eyes Steamhammer Records, 2007
8/10
Hatesphere - Serpent Smiles And Killer Eyes - cover art While I think The Haunted went downhill after their first two albums (which are simply amazing by the way) the complete opposite is true for their Danish colleagues in Hatesphere. These guys have progressed with each new album and their latest offering "Serpent Smiles and Killer Eyes" definitely crowns their career so far. Their brand of aggressive death / thrash metal is the perfect injection of adrenalin for any moshpit loving headbanger on this planet. Drawing inspiration from Slayer in particular and the entire death and thrash metal scen in general they have crafted their own personal sound without imitating anyone else. Frontman Jacob Bredahl plays an important part here, managing to cover everything from chilling screams to abyssic growls with equal perfection. Perfection and precision are keywords when it comes to dealing with the Hatesphere of today. The sky may be the limit but they have come a long way since they started out in the mid 90s. No compromises, just 40 minutes of pure energy.
