All I’ve heard about Heed is that it was formed by two ex-members of Lost Horizon. I can say, without a doubt, this is not in any way like Lost Horizon, and I suggest from the beginning you stick with Heed. The debut of this band is one of the highest quality, with well composed songs and musicians who know what they are doing.
After a short intro ‘Heed Hades’, the first actual song ‘I Am Alive’ begins, which is immediately a song that draws you into the album and makes you want to hear more. The music itself, is quite heavy, with a lot of melodies, and the song has a very catchy chorus. All that is needed for one to keep this disc spinning. The abstract sounds and whispered voices in the intro of the next song are somewhat different from the ‘standard’ in power metal, but greatly appreciated. The chorus is just as catchy as the previous one, and all the instruments add up to a great song, which is very well composed. Heed sounds somewhat like Edguy every now and then, but never really imitating any band in particular, which is, of course, a good thing. Each and every song adds up to the quality of the album, without ever getting dull, because nothing is the same. Just a few of the highlights are ‘I Am Alive’, ‘Salvation’ and ‘Nothing’, of which the latest is probably one of the most diverse songs on this album.
The only conclusion is the any fan of power/heavy metal should get this release, it really is one of the best debuts this year.
