REVIEW: Hell-Born - Hellblast Conquer Records, 2001
6.5/10
Hell-Born - Hellblast - cover art Hell-Born was one of the finest Polish black/death metal hybrids in the mid 90's and released their self-titled debut EP through Pagan Records in 1996 before temporarily disappearing completely from the scene. In 2000 the band was reformed by Les and Baal (both previously known from Behemoth and Damnation) and on vocals we have none other than the ex-Damnation member Jeff. Together these three black souls have created a very brutal new album that will probably appeal to fans of brutal Polish metal in general. This is fast, furious, black music made in respect of the dark lord that they are apparently the very sons of if you choose to believe the wonderful lyrics of the second track... They may not be the most skilled writers there are but they do know how to conceive brutal music without sounding the same as everyone else. Unfortunately the music is also a little bit too monotonous to be sounding real good all the way through. You can however tell that these guys know what to do with their respective instruments and I would be surprised if we wouldn't see more from them in the near future.
