REVIEW: Hell Injection - Horns Up, Here Comes Hell Injection self-released, 2009
5/10
Hell Injection - Horns Up, Here Comes Hell Injection - cover art Hovering somewhere between We Are Motörhead, Never Mind the Bollocks...Here’s the Sex Pistols and Ooh Crikey...It’s Lawnmower Deth comes this similarly titled effort, the latest foray into “look at me” reflexivity. And y’know what, those three disparate references and my poor attempt at music geek semiotics notwithstanding, it’s not too bad a summation of the sounds offered up here. Kinda speed rock, kinda street punk, kinda sloppy thrash, not really doing justice to any of the root genres but at the same time not embarrassing them either, this Belgian assemblage hit and run with four tracks in fifteen minutes. It’s delivered with a hardcore vocal bark, unremittingly and somewhat dully, to be honest, but it’s a quick and painless visit. Only fourth track, the exponentially more melodic “On My Way,” deviates from the norm, with its female background vocals and deliberate guitar leads. As such, it’s either the best track on the record or the odd-man-out at worst. You be da judge.
