Helloween is still more or less 'the' definition for what is power metal. This German band founded in the beginning of the 80s by Kai Hansen (Gamma Ray) is still one of the best power metal bands out there. "Better Than Raw" seems to be the 'heaviest' album to this point but also one of the best produced albums they have released. We are offered a powerful album with catchy melodic songs, choruses and great guitar solos. To make it short: Helloween showed once again what it means to belong to the top of the power metal bands out there. Starting right away with an intro called "Deliberately Limited Preliminary Prelude Period in Z" which is probably one of the best intros ever done by Helloween. Here we have brilliant guitar work mixed with fantastic orchestral arrangements. Songs like "Push" or "I Can" (released as a single) show the power and heaviness of this album whereas "Laudate Dominum", a song entirely written in Latin, shows catchy melodies, great drumming and simply how Helloween songs have to be like. Kiske couldn't have done it better what Andi Deris shows us here. His vocal performances are almost as good as perfect throughout the album. What shouldn't be left unmentioned is the nice album cover which reflects the album title very well. After all I would say this is the best Helloween album since 'Keeper' Pt. II. (This album has been re-released by Castle Music in 2001.)
