Himinbjorg has been labeled as a viking band and actually, this French band is the first non-Scandinavian viking metal band which I have come across recently. Unfortunately, I have not had the chance to listen to their earlier releases but Europa makes me realize that there are many good bands out there waiting to be discovered. Euorpa begins with a song named Entering Odin’s Huge Palace, which symbolically is Himinbjorg’s latest release and this viking band’s album is a good stay in this Palace. Altogether there are four untitled tracks in the albums that most all of them are less than 1 minute. These untitled tracks are mainly guitar feedbacks and for me signify the major passages through the halls and chambers of the Palace. As one may expect from Odin’s palace, there are lots of ornaments and wonderful surprises in the Palace and that is exactly how the music of his album is like. Fast and slow guitar riffs, harsh and clean vocals are put side by side and their synthesis make this tour really interesting.
The artwork of the album is one of the most brilliant and yet most simple artworks I have ever seen. A beautiful door for this great palace. Favourite tracks: The Law of Worship, Daily Illusions.
