REVIEW: Himinbjorg - Golden Age Adipocere Records, 2003
6.5/10
Himinbjorg - Golden Age - cover art Himinbjorg have quickly risen from the deepest underground to become one of the leading extreme metal bands from France and now it's time for a new album from the band. They have throughout their career been characterized by a viking metal sound slightly similar to what Scandinavian bands have produced in the past, only rawer and more primitive in general. After three full-length albums and one mini album on the American Red Stream label they have now signed a new deal with the native label Adipocere Records. A new label, a new line-up, are there major changes going on? Not really because musically Himinbjorg continue in the same vein as before with catchy melodies, furious black vocals full of rage, occasional acoustic guitars and haunting atmospheres. Himinbjorg at their best is wonderful to listen to but sometimes it seems as if there is something missing in the song writing department. I also think the clean male vocals are a little bit too weak to justify their use. Still, a more than decent album that should not fail to please old fans of the band. Stand-out tracks: "The Galleries Of Time", "...And To Fight Forever...".
