REVIEW: Himinbjorg - Haunted Shores Red Stream, 2001
7/10
Himinbjorg - Haunted Shores - cover art The French viking metallers of Himinbjorg are some very interesting people who have decided to dedicate their lives and souls to honor the beautiful nature of this Earth and the pagan culture of the past. They are no longer a "real" black metal band as they were in their early days since they have now slowed down notably and incorporated more of a doomy or perhaps even gothic atmosphere while still using black vocals. The clean vocals aren't very impressive if you only see to the voice but together with the music they still make a very nice impression. Himinbjorg is one of the most intrigueing bands I've heard in a while and if you want something else than "mainstream" black metal than this might be something for you. This album shows the band more complex and mature than before but they have still maintained the most important elements of their past accomplishments which makes sure that old fans of the band will also more than likely enjoy their new offering. I wouldn't go as far as calling this a masterpiece but it is still a very nice album. They are actually one of the first black metal bands I've heard with impressive guitar solos! Try playing it on a misty morning while walking through a forest and you will appreciate the beauty of the world of Himinbjorg.
