REVIEW: Hobbs Angel Of Death - Hobbs Satans Crusade Modern Invasion Music, 2003
8.5/10
Hobbs Angel Of Death - Hobbs Satans Crusade - cover art Hobbs Angel Of Death is one of the most famous metal bands to leave Australian soil. After having formed in 1986 as the solo project of Peter Hobbs and recorded a couple of demos they released their self-titled debut album in 1988 through Steamhammer Records, the European label responsible for signing every big thrash metal band at the time. After many years of hibernation the band have reunited and their reawakening is celebrated by the Aussie label Modern Invasion Records in the form of the release of their two early demos "Virgin Metal Invasion From Downunder" and "Angel Of Death" (Slayer flashback anyone?) on cd. The German thrash metal bands Kreation, Destruction and Sodom were generally more extreme and were important influences on many early black metal bands. Hobbs Angel Of Death were however playing thrash metal more in the American vein, sounding much like a mix between early versions of Annihilator and Slayer. Even though these tracks are only demo recordings the sound quality is very good and fans of good old late 80s thrash metal will not be disappointed.
