REVIEW: Holochaust - PanDEMOnium (EP) Self-financed, 2002
8.5/10
Holochaust - PanDEMOnium (EP) - cover art Well done, guys! This Finnish band used to play a mix of unmemorable hard rock and metal in the spirit of 80's and 90's. However they have moved away from that style. They have also improved the vocal delivery, (the singer is mincing some lyrics though in the faster parts), the musicianship and even more importantly their song writing abilities. The first song "Holocaust" is reminding me of the great Thrash Metal masters Testament in their 2nd -mainly- and 3rd albums. Same style, same great guitar part, same powerfull chorouses. "Guilty of Greed" is also quite Thrash Metal like and has some very nice multivocal lines in the chorouses, which are close to the spirit of old Candlemass; very "heavy Metal" and very nice indeed. There is also some truly great guitar soloing in this song. The last song is the ballad "Sad Life Philosophy". It's obvious that the lyrics are written with all the best intensions (by the singer, for a friend that committed suicide) but even though they are cool to a degree they could have been a bit better. (There are some grammatical mistakes and also parts that could have been done in a better way). It's safe to say that these guys are learning fast. In a few months they went from being painfully average to been good enough to get signed. I can only congratulate them for managing that!
