REVIEW: Holy Moses - Strength, Power, Will, Passion Armageddon Music, 2005
7/10
Holy Moses - Strength, Power, Will, Passion - cover art There are only a few strong female front figures in extreme metal who have made a lasting impression on me, myself and I as well as the metal community in general. Cadaveria and Angela Gossow are a couple of them but someone who has been around for way longer is Sabina Classen, the ever so young and gorgeous singer of Germany's thrash metal veterans Holy Moses. Having parted ways with leading independent metal merchants Century Media they have, like so many other German metal acts, teamed up with Lars Ratz' (Metalium) label Armageddon Music who are doing a wonderful job keeping native bands in the spotlight as well as discovering some new hidden gems. Despite these minor changes everything is back to normal - good, old technical thrash that will make many of you want to bang your head all night long. No surprises, no bold new moves, no excesses but that is exactly what most fans expect from them. One improvement deserves to be mentioned however, for the first time in their long and relatively successful career they have had the good taste to pick an album cover that doesn't look absolutely horrible. Straight-forward and intense thrash featuring some of the most raw and jaw-breaking female vocals around. No songs stand out as remarkably memorable but a decent album. No ballads, no bullshit, just pure energy.
