After one full-length album and one EP for the American label Arctic Music, the Greek moshing deathsters of Homo Iratus have now parted with the label and also their vocalist Thomas Bairachtaris. When I reviewed the debut album of this young band I referred to them as "the best thing thas has happened in Greek metal since Rotting Christ" so I was very excited to listen to the new material. Lacking the support of a label Homo Iratus have spent a lot of money themselves this time to produce an album with both professional artwork and a superb production. Having very high expectations often lead to disappointments and this was unfortunately the case this time. "Apocalypse" is not bad at all but it lacks that immense energy explosion that came with the debut and the song writing seems to have been somewhat rushed. I still like the fact that Homo Iratus is one of the few socially aware death metal bands out there but they fail to impress me as much this time as they did a couple of years back. I hope that they will be able to repair the damage next time but right now they need to focus on finding themselves a suitable label because having someone else taking care of the business related issues will give the band more time to spend on what is most important namely the music itself. "Apocalypse" is brutal, grinding and fast but as my expectations were so much higher it didn't do that much for me. Don't get me wrong, it's not bad at all but nothing out of the ordinary. I hope they will find the road back to where they were.
