Hour Of Penance is another signing to Dave
Rotten's new upcoming label Xtreem Music. They formed in Rome, Italy, in 1999
as a black / death metal cover band but eventually they began writing songs of
their own. One year later this resulted in their first demo which was recorded
with Giuseppe Orlando of Novembre (Century Media recording artist). The band
took part in the first Gothenburg Deathfest here in Sweden on June 1st, 2002
(together with Insision, Iniquity, Visceral Bleeding and others), but
unfortunately I could not attend that event. Now they have been given the
chance to unleash their brutal noise to the world in the form on their first
full-length album which has been given the title "Disturbance". Disturbance
is just what this is - Hour Of Penance will not give you any peace or calm
until the final string has been shredded while you listen to their album. From
beginning to end they offer nothing but fast-paced guitar riffing, blast beats
and guttural growling vocals that are not of this world. These ten brutal
slabs of death metal should appeal to all of you who fancy Nile and Hate
Eternal. I am not sure about where the band recorded their debut album but I
suspect that they recorded it once again with Orlando. It is well executed,
well written and comes with a mighty production that shows the seriousness and
professionalism of Dave Rotten's new label. Nothing that hasn't been heard
before but Hour Of Penance is still one of the most promising new bands on the
Italian death metal scene.
