REVIEW: Hurtlocker - Fear In A Handfull Of Dust Napalm Records, 2005
5/10
Hurtlocker - Fear In A Handfull Of Dust - cover art The Chicago based quartet Hurtlocker are pure energy and aggression forced into three minute tracks. Combined with technical skills and a tight and thrashy sound, Hurtlocker’s debut album “Fear in a Handful of Dust” certainly has the power to knock small buildings down. The band's metalcore does however lack in dynamics and variation to a point that makes you think the entire album contains one song recorded ten times. It’s not a terribly bad song, but it is better if taken in small doses. The entire album is too much up-tempo thrash-metalcore for me to take. However, I have to remind myself that “Fear in a Handful of Dust” is Hurtlocker’s debut album. They are not bad musicians and maybe they will find some individuality and characteristics in the future. If they do, then I’m sure they will be enjoyable to listen to but for now it is too monotonous and predictable.
