REVIEW: Hypocrisy - Catch 22 Nuclear Blast, 2002
6/10
Hypocrisy - Catch 22 - cover art Let's call "Catch 22" from this day of "Take 22", as it is another sign that Hypocrisy has remained on the spot they were 8 years ago, when they did "Abducted". The feeling is the same, where they combine quite thrashy death metal with the more atmospheric death metal. A genuine formula perhaps, but personally I have lost track of Hypocrisy from 1994. "Abducted" was great, the "Final Chapter" album also quite good, and after that they have struggled to maintain a quality on their albums. "Catch 22" also loosens the grip somewhat I think. It's more go straight ahead, but on a level where the songs don't always give me much. It's well played and everything, and tightly executed, but the song feeling can sometimes just be of "another one", and not on a level I had wished it to be. A couple of quality tracks there are, so the album is decent to listen to, although it will not remain a classic for me. Best track: "Seeds Of The Chosen One", that show signs of old quality.
