REVIEW: Hypocrisy - Hypocrisy Nuclear Blast, 1999
8/10
Hypocrisy - Hypocrisy - cover art Hypocrisy has changed a lot since their early days but still they´re at Nuclear Blast, one of the top metal labels in the world. The music is still melodic death metal but the vocals are not as raw as they used to be. If you have heard the latest release from the band you know pretty much what this album sounds like as it is very similar. The only difference is that this one is a little more aggressive. As always you can mostly thank Peter Tägtgren for the great music on this album. He wrote most of the music, produced and mixed the album as well as played both guitar and keyboards and did the vocals. It´s no doubt he is one of the most talented people in Swedish metal and Hypocrisy is definitely one of the best death metal bands in the world right now. The sound is a little similar to that of Dark Tranquillity but Hyporisy is heavier, more massive and not quite as melodic. The album is very well-produced, there are some great guitar riffing, nice drumming and all of it nicely accompanied by keyboard orchestration on a couple of tracks to create a very interesting composition. The album was produced and mixed by Peter Tägtgren, recorded at his own Abyss Studio Dec 98-Jan 99 and engineered by the band and Peter's brother Tommy Tägtgren. The cover art was done by Thomas Ewerhard, photos and layout by Axel Jusseit. The album was mastered at Cuttingroom by Peter In De Betou.
