REVIEW: Hypocrisy - Into The Abyss Nuclear Blast, 2000
8.5/10
Hypocrisy - Into The Abyss - cover art Hypocrisy is absolutely one of the top metal bands from Sweden and "Into The Abyss" is not likely an album to disappoint you. It´s heavy and thick but still very melodic with great growling vocals. If you like other similar Swedish bands like Dark Tranquility and In Flames I think this is music of your kind if you don´t mind something a little heavier. Considering that the band only consists of three members they have most definitely proved their musical skills with this very nice release. Perhaps the melodies are a little too subtle and easily overrun by the guitars but altogether the ten songs are well composed. "Into The Abyss" might not be a perfect album but it´s among the best metal releases this year and really worth buying if you have any money left. There are a couple of songs that are first class musical experiences like "Fire In The Sky" and "Death Row" but the rest of the album is also full of great music. The album was produced by the vocalist, the one and only Peter Tägtgren, one of the most talented people in the metal world today (he also plays keyboards and guitars on this release).
