REVIEW: Hypocrisy - Penetralia Nuclear Blast, 1992
7.5/10
Hypocrisy - Penetralia - cover art Hyporisy is one of many great death metal bands erupting from the surface of Sweden and the founder of the band Peter Tägtgren is familiar among most real metal fans in the world. Except from his work with Hypocrisy he has also produced many other great albums in his own studio in Sweden. Nowadays Peter does the vocals himself but on this album the name of the growler is Masse Bromberg. The sound quality on this album is of course not as great as on the more recent albums from the band but you can see why they have had such a successful career. Many death metal bands has nothing but growling and a pounding drum machine which will become boring rather quickly. Hypocrisy has a lot more than this - great guitar melodies and riffing, a very talented drummer and a first class growler that does not sound the same throughout the whole album. The music is very melodic but it is sometimes a little too simple and sterile. The newer albums of the band are certainly better but it is interesting to see how the band has developed over the years and this is not at all a bad album. If you like melodic death metal with some of the best growling around this is candy for you. I think the album was produced by Peter Tägtgren himself but I´m not sure about this.
