REVIEW: Iced Earth - The Dark Saga Century Media, 1998
8.5/10
Iced Earth - The Dark Saga - cover art Although I seem to have grown out of liking most power metal bands I must say that Iced Earth is one of the better bands in this genre to see the light during the 90s. This album might not show the best of the band since it sometimes sounds a little too electronical and static to be really great. Otherwise the band plays very technical and fast power metal - a little heavier and darker than other new bands like Hammerfall, Gamma Ray, Edguy and so on and very melodic. The vocals are really great classic metal vocals but they are also a little darker than most of their fellow bands and sometimes with a touch of death metal growling. If you love power metal this is definitely something you would not want to miss out on. If you, like me, have grown tired of the whole power metal sound this might still be something you would like. The vocals of Iced Earth are some of the best in the whole world of metal and are one of the band's strength together with the very melodic music. The album was recorded at Morrisound Studios, Tampa, Florida, and produced by Jim Morris and Jon Schaffer, engineered by Jim Morris. Angelic voices on this recording were done by Kate Barlow.
