REVIEW: If Hope Dies - Life In Ruin Ironclad Recordings, 2006
7/10
If Hope Dies - Life In Ruin - cover art The Auburn, New York unit, If Hope Dies, received a lot of praise from the critics after the release of their album "The Ground Is Rushing Up to Meet Us" in 2004. Now they are back with the release of “Life In Ruin” on Ironclad Recordings. The music on “Life In Ruin” is a mix of up-tempo metal meets hardcore with melodic guitar lines, chunky breakdowns combined with Alan French’s hardcore vocals. All members of the band are skilled musicians and since the production is quite good as well there are not many things to complain about. If Hope Dies have managed to make a good metalcore album with some great songs on. Sometimes they lose some of the aggression in the effort to be melodic, but when they manage to keep the intensity up this is just great metalcore. I am personally not that keen on Alan’s vocals, but that is just a matter of personal taste. Besides that I like “Life In Ruin” and I believe that many lovers of metalcore and metal heads as well are going to like this one.
